What is the best way to find a dog for your family?

My friend would like to get a Jack Russel Terrier but he is looking at online sites. What is the best way for him to find a JRT for his family? They seem pretty decided on the breed and I just want to encourage them to do the right thing. He lives in the San Diego area.

Hey Porter, You should suggest that your friend check out JRT or small breed rescues. JRTs are often a handful of a breed, and so many cute little puppies get abandoned when they begin to become full grown, busy terriers. If they are not interested in adoption, then suggest looking up your local JRT club. Most large city centers have breed clubs and your local JRT club will be able to suggest responsible and ethical breeders in your area. Your local kennel club may be easier to get a hold of and should be able to supply you with breed contacts.

Hi Porter, What about adoption? There are many shelters, humane societies and rescues out there with purebred Jack Russels! The sites below are great ways to search shelters and rescues by breed. (You can also limit your search by location, age, and size!) www.petfinder.com www.petharbor.com
