Dear Dogster reader,

Almost two years ago, we invested numerous resources and rebuilt the Dogster community. With new hardware, software and personnel, we did our best to satisfy the many users who shared their thoughts, pictures, questions, and love for and of their pets with us and friends. It was a thriving community with many users. We hoped, however, there would be more like you.

Times and habits have changed and we are sad to announce that the Dogster community will be closing down on July 20, 2019.

Dogster magazine, and the associated social media sites are NOT shutting down. We encourage you to continue reading the content found in the pages of the magazine and the web sites, commenting through the mechanisms provided and sharing your ideas and comments with us and your fellow readers.

Instructions for accessing pet profiles were shared with everyone in 2017. The instructions can be found within the forum. AFTER JULY 20TH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS CONTENT. And, effective immediately, we are no longer able to answer questions about the community.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you through our magazine and website.

Dogs should be trained when they are 8-9 weeks old, when you first take them home. No dog is too old to train, it may just take longer since she is older. What are you trying to train her to do? You can visit the Dogster Behavior & Training Forum -

What type of trying are you wanting to do ? No dog is ever to old for training. Always remember to give lots of praise to reward the good behavior, and ignore the undesired.

Thats Right. No dog is never to old!!... But you should start by doing basic tricks like: Sit, Leave it, down, and stay before any "Harder" tricks:).. And teaching a dog a new trick can take about 3-6 weeks, Depends on how there acting well, like being a good dog!... Its farely Easy!!...Heres a website that easy..Just go through the basic steps..Since you know, German Shepherds are the loyal dogs Lol!: D

As others have said, it is not too late.Is this your first gsd? If so, please read up on their specific quirks. They can be frustrating for novice owners. Gsds are super smart & she should pick up cues quickly. They need a firm, consistent, gentle leader. Yelling/hitting are NOT the way to go. An excellent book for you is The Power of Positive Dog Training, by Pat Miller. I suggest you open a dogster account (free) & post in the Behavior & Training Forum, or hop over to the German Shepherd Forum & we would be happy to give you all the advice/help you need. There is way too much to say than can be done in this section.

go to for books, toys, and how to learn to train your gsd. It is never too old to learn anything. dogs are very smart and the more time we invest in training will be great rewards. I did not teach my dog the formal retrieve until she was 5! so no your dog is very very young :) see our gsd forum on dogster
