Dog can't handle my mum not being home. Please help.

We have 2 maltese x shih tzu a year a part (9 & 8) The 9 year old is a female and when my mum leaves the house, she becomes very anxious. She hides, shakes and pants. I know her hiding spots and when I call her she comes out for a pat but still has the anxiety and when I go she goes back to her hiding spot. It's to the point that my parents can't even go on a holiday. They went away for a week, well 3 days before having to come home because she wouldn't eat or drink. Once home she was happy and ate so much and spent so long drinking. Does anybody know how to handle dogs like these and try to get them to stay the same when my mum is not home? The Male 8 year old is perfectly fine at all times!
