Luxating Patella surgery, does anyone have any experience to share about this?

Hi! My much loved little Penny has a luxating patella (which is a kneecap that slips and the knee goes out of joint) which she will be having surgery for in early December. The joint will be completely re-worked by a specialist and I'm a nervous wreck. The surgeon explained the procedure and I've researched it, but I would very much love to hear from anyone else whose baby has had this surgery and any advice you could give me would be much appreciated! Thank you for your time. Kay and little Penny

I had mine done a couple of years ago. It's a long recovery process, but mom is glad we did it. Are you having both of your knees done or just one?

We didn't find out until last Thurs, when I went in for surgery, that I needed BOTH done, but sure enough, when the surgeon started moving the other knee around, and the x rays showed inflammationa and another luxation, I had to have both done. A major re-do on my right knee and a minor one on my left knee. On the left, the surgeon said she just had to cut a small groove in the bone to keep my kneecap riding in the right area. Minor invasive surgery she said. Moms trying to keep me as still and off them as possible. And WOW what alot of new chew toys I have. I'm no enjoying a brand new playpen that I have my soft bed in with lots of soft blankets and my piddle pad and food and water. Not that I'm in there much. I'm on mom or another family members lap most of the time....he, he....I have my pain patch off now (boy that came in handy) and am just taking the Metacam for pain and inflamation in the evenings. I get my sutures out the day before Christmas eve and BOY OH BOY will it be nice to not have to wear the E collar when I'm not in someones lap!!! Feelin better already!!!:o)
