mourning a loss

We lost Prissy last night. Sophie is going and laying in the spot that Prissy passed away in. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Sophie didn't want to come to bed last night and even when she did she didn't sleep. I don't how dogs mourn the loss of another.

Yes this is normal. We recently lost one of our dogs, and one of them was really close to her and he looked for her for about a week. Dogs will typically be in search of a pack member when they are missing, but will move on. Dogs do grieve, yes, but they don't dwell on the situation. When your dog realizes that the other is not around, she will move on. It is okay to let her do this. Make sure that you are taking her on walks, playing with her, and giving her attention. Keeping her depressed can be detrimental to her, so give her all of the normal attention you always have. Walks are a plus because the dogs' mind will be in a different state, and it will be easier for everyone to move on. I am so sorry for your loss :(
