Spite peeing?

My dog is a 5 year old mutt! She’s incredibly well-behaved, but every once in awhile, she pees in the guest room if a guest visits and we all leave without her. Now, this dog gets more exercise than any dog I have ever met! We take her on amazing hikes at least every other day (if not every day!) and living in California allows us to bring her with us almost everywhere. She only pees in the guest room carpet if a guest visits and we leave the house without her. I truly believe this is an act of “revenge,” but all of my research on this topic disagrees! Any thoughts?

Sounds like Jealousy. She doesn't want to share you with people she doesn't know. First of all close the bedroom door when you all have to leave without her so she can't get in... (Duh). Secondly depending on where you are going with your guests, maybe see if some of those places allow dogs so that she can come along. I realize that would not always be possible... but for instance if you are going out to eat during the summer. Try to find an outdoor dog friendly cafe.
